Turkish Education Association (TED) gives much emphasis to excellence in ELT, starting from kindergarten through primary and secondary education. Committed to improving the quality of teaching and learning English in its schools, the Association believes that in our information age it is imperative that teachers of English re-evaluate their teaching practices and get acquainted with the new literacies, namely information and communications technology (ICT). Only by then will they meet the needs of their students and manage the challenges in ELT in the 21st century.
Thus, the aim of our 2009 Conference is to share with teachers of English, who are lifelong learners, how the new media can systematically aid language learning, how improved performance and motivation can be achieved on part of the learner, and how self- efficacy and autonomous learning can be increased by integrating information communications technology (ICT) into their teaching.
